Vidau’s Speedway Return Aiding in Bathurst Prep
Max Vidau has returned to the wheel of his Sprintcar in South Australia as he prepares to tackle Mount Panorama in Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup, one year on from his debut with TekworkX Motorsport.
Saturday night at Murray Bridge, Vidau quickly found pace with seventh in the time trials before he was collected in an incident in the second heat. The damage necessitated some welding work before charging from last to fifth in the feature race.
“It was great to get back in the sprintcar and I feel like it’s warmed me up quite a bit for Bathurst. Getting up against the wall and being comfortable with the aggression are both important factors for the weekend,” said Vidau.
The previous round in Sandown saw a return of form for Vidau who won the opening round of the season. Third on the grid after having his fastest lap compromised by mud, led to a podium in the opening race. A strong start in race two and a brief move for the lead turned into disaster when he was spun into the fence by a car rejoining the track.
The dose of bad luck added to the luckless season that has seen Vidau fall to ninth in the points after leading the way after the Australian Grand Prix. Wrong place, wrong time has been the running theme with various issues such as slippery track surfaces and other cars having trouble right around Vidau.
“We’ve never really stopped attacking this year, but we’ve just been unbelievably unlucky at times. We just have to roll with the punches and trust that we’ll get our rewards.
“Last year we were top three in lap times in the final race, so there’s a good history for us speed wise around Bathurst. It’ll be important to come out the gate straight on the pace with the single practice and then we’ll throw a hot set on it for Qualifying and see what we’ve got,” concluded Vidau.
The penultimate round of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship takes place from October 6-9 at Mount Panorama as part of the Bathurst 1000.
