Youlden Targets Townsville Repeat on Gold Coast Streets

Oct 26, 2022

TekworkX Motorsport driver Luke Youlden is targeting pole position and race wins on the streets of Surfers Paradise at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 for the final round of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship.

Last time Carrera Cup visited a street circuit was at Townsville in July where the Hire A Hubby sponsored driver claimed the team’s maiden series pole position and race win in the opening race of the weekend. The opportunity to win the next two races was denied after Youlden was pushed into the fence in race two and then taken out in race three.

The Gold Coast event last ran in 2019 when Youlden was competing as a co-driver in the Supercars Championship. That event brings good memories for Youlden who picked up a podium in race two, adding to his collection of surfboards earned for podium finishes on the Gold Coast.

2022 has been a source of frustration at time for both TekworkX Motorsport drivers with both Youlden and teammate Vidau copping an unbelievable run of bad luck. Despite this Youlden has scored ten top 10 results, including two podiums finishes and that Townsville race win.

“I’m just looking forward to a nice sunny weekend after the run we’ve had lately,” said Youlden.

“Bathurst was a really disappointing weekend, and a bit of a waste really. I’ve been travelling with the team to the Sprint Challenge rounds which as well have been heavily affected by rain lately so we’re all eager to soak in the sun on the Gold Coast.

“In terms of what we can get out of it on the track I think there’s no reason we can’t be at least as good as Townsville. We’ve been very fast on the street circuits this year, Albert Park and Townsville so we’ll put a pretty similar set up on it and really chase after those strong results.

“We have had very fast cars in the last two rounds as well which Max has demonstrated while I didn’t quite get the rub of the green, so we’ll hit the track and push really hard this weekend.”

The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship wraps up at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 from October 28-30.
