TekworkX Win Final Round of Porsche Sprint Challenge
Danny Stutterd has won the final round of the season in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, earning TekworkX Motorsport their first round victory in the category. Nathan Sticklen put together a strong weekend as well to earn third in the Championship for Class B.
For the second time in as many rounds, the team were faced with a compact two day schedule for Sprint Challenge. A sole 55-minute practice session on Friday was impacted by red flag interruptions before qualifying took place later that afternoon.
Sam Fillmore was the highest Pro-Am qualifier for TekworkX, earning fifth in class ahead of Stutterd in eighth. In Class B Sticklen put himself third on the grid, behind competitors with an abundance of Phillip Island experience. All three races ran on Saturday, without the appearance of the usual longer ‘endurance cup’ race.
Race one set up the weekend for Stuttered with a strong drive through the field to finish third in the Pro-Am class, with Fillmore in seventh. Sticklen battled hard on his way to third place, a feat he would replicate in race three.
The second race of the weekend lasted just two laps, before a red flag ended the race early with no points awarded. The incident involved Stutterd, who was turned into a spin after jumping to the lead. It led to a superb turnaround from the team to make the car ready for race three just two hours later.
Race three’s grid therefore reverted to the starting order for race two, allowing Stutterd to fight back from third once more. Another superb launch saw Stutterd into the lead on lap one, driving brilliantly to hold on for the rest of the race. Fillmore had improved to fifth, before getting caught up in an incident which dropped him down the order.
Stutterd finishes eighth in the Pro-Am standings, despite missing three rounds. Sticklen finishes third in Class B, just 26 points behind the leader and just one point off second.
