Zoe Woods and Jordan Freestone will line up for the Toyota 86 Scholarship Series at Phillip Island this weekend, with the pair excited by the prospect of racing at another ‘world-class’ circuit.

Round one of the series took place at Sydney Motorsport Park, where both drivers took part in their first races aboard Toyota 86 machinery. Following the opening round, Freestone and Woods sit 13^th and 22^nd in the points standings. The focus of the Scholarship Series is to earn qualification for the National Series starting in Townsville in July.

This trip to Phillip Island will be the first for Freestone, who has been preparing on the simulator and by analysing data from previous events at the circuit.

“I’m really excited to go to Phillip Island, it’s a world class racetrack,” said Freestone.

“The high-speed nature of the tracks means there’s going to be a lot of focus on really maximising the grip available in the car. I’ve been watching heaps of Cricky’s (Cameron Crick) footage to help prepare myself and I’ve spent a bit of time in the sim at the workshop as well.

“I’m still nervous for this round, but considerably less so than my debut last time out. I know now how it is all going to work and the processes of a race weekend, which is a weight off my shoulders.

“If I can compete inside the top 10 I’ll be stoked, but we really just want to get through this scholarship series with a clean car and then we can really fight it out from Townsville onwards,” concluded Freestone.

Woods recently visited the circuit as part of the Australian Production Cars series, in a bid to get a head start on learning the track.

“Phillip Island is another amazing track for the series to visit, and I’m looking forward to building on what we learnt at round one,” said Woods.

“I feel positive ahead of this weekend and confidence thanks to the experience we gained at Sydney Motorsport Park. Being able to visit the track and do some laps a couple of weeks ago was also a great opportunity to help prepare myself.

“I loved every minute of my time on the track during that weekend, it’s fast paced with some great corners and should produce some really good racing,” concluded Woods.

Round two of the Toyota 86 Scholarship Series takes place from May 26-28 at Phillip Island, as part of the Victorian State Race Series, with Saturday and Sunday coverage on Blend Line TV.
