Morris, Fitzsimmons and Shields Deliver First Ever TekworkX Podium Sweep

Nov 13, 2023

TekworkX Motorsport have ended the 2023 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge season in resounding fashion, as Nash Morris clean swept the weekend and led home a team-first podium lockout in the final race of the season.

Pro-Am Danny Stutterd added to the celebrations as he also took the round victory, giving TekworkX their first sweep of both Pro and Pro-Am classes in one weekend.

Aron Shields and Hamish Fitzsimmons wrapped up their season second and fourth respectively in the championship, with Morris sixth despite missing eight races.

Morris picked up his first Sprint Challenge pole position in qualifying, with Fitzsimmons fourth just hours after lapping Mount Panorama for the first time. Shields earnt seventh on the grid, while Stutterd was second in Pro-Am and an impressive 12th outright.

The Endurance Cup finale also served as the opening race of the weekend, with Morris taking victory after a race long fight for the lead. Fitzsimmons finished fourth and secured second in the Endurance Cup standings. Shields picked up a place to finish sixth, with Stutterd holding on to his second place in Pro-Am.

Fitzsimmons fought to second place in the penultimate race of the season, crossing the line behind Morris to take home a one-two finish. Shields continued his charge forward, improving to fourth place. Stutterd gained places to finish 10th outright, and second once again Pro-Am.

In the final race of the weekend, Fitzsimmons pressured Morris all the way, with Shields jumping to third and showing a strong turn of speed as well. The trio looked comfortable out front, as they delivered a first ever top three lockout for TekworkX Motorsport, coming in the same year as the team’s first pro class entry to the category.

Stutterd made a decisive move to take the Pro-Am lead and victory in the final race, with his weekend results also earning TekworkX the Pro-Am round win. Fitsimmons joined Morris on the Pro class podium for the round, with second place overall.

Quotes:
Hamish Fitzsimmons
“We had good speed all weekend, it was good to start our first Bathurst campaign strong,” said Fitzsimmons.

“Bathurst is really cool, I learnt a lot across the weekend, and it was an awesome performance from TekworkX as well. We got the gap to the lead down to half a second in the end there during that last race, it would have been cool to see how that played out without the Safety Car coming out.

“I just want to thank the Woods family for taking me on and making me a part of the family, I couldn’t do it without them, and all my sponsors. It was a strong season and hopefully the start of many more to come,” concluded Fitzsimmons.

Aron Shields
“It was a great weekend, we didn’t qualify to well but we got on top of the car and made some improvements, really happy to finish off the weekend in third considering.

“This season, there were a few races where we were really on it, and we sort of felt unbeatable on our day. We had a tough round in Tasmania, and we were seventh in the championship at one point, so to come back to second I couldn’t ask for more.

“I feel we’ve continued to learn a lot this year, and just really excited for what the future holds,” concluded Shields.

Nash Morris
“It was a great weekend from my end and for the team,” said Morris.

“Just shows all the hard work all the people from TekworkX have put in, thanks to Rob and all the team for the support and all my sponsors.

“Interesting to see what the future holds,” concluded Morris.
