Vidau Leaves TekworkX, Carrera Cup, with Adelaide Podium

Nov 27, 2023

Max Vidau parts ways from the TekworkX Motorsport Carrera Cup team with third place in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup finale at the Adelaide Street Circuit. Pro-Am Danny Stutterd also finished third in the final race of the season, capping off his year.

Vidau wrapped up fifth in the Championship, despite a string of misfortune that included the Tyrepower Porsche sitting on the sidelines for two races at the Gold Coast. It was Vidau’s second full season of Carrera Cup, with TekworkX, in a campaign that netted 12 podiums, three race wins and two round wins.

The Tyrepower #72 started strong in a wet pair of practice sessions, fastest in practice one and second in practice two after his pace-setting time was eclipsed moments before a red flag. A strong rebound after a qualifying spin, which was the first dry session of the weekend, saw Vidau earn fourth on the grid for race one. Stutterd enjoyed a consistent weekend, taking fifth in class for both practice sessions, qualifying and the first two races.

In a blistering race one performance Vidau climbed to second across the opening stages of the 23 lap race, and was able to put the pressure on the race leader. A dive for the race lead in the closing laps came unstuck, with Vidau spinning and dropping back to finish in sixth.

Vidau was again one of the fastest drivers on track in the second race, charging his way back into the podium places as he finished third in a shortened eight lap sprint. The weekend’s final race was also shortened due to time constraints, with Vidau coming in third after nine laps. Stutterd enjoyed a strong final race to the season, rising up the order to take third in the Pro-Am fight.

“We started the weekend strong, realistically we were fastest in both practices, just got denied with that red flag as the track was improving,” said Vidau.

“We were just as fast in the dry, but we missed the setup a little bit in qualifying, so I had to really rag the car to produce the lap time we did. Unfortunately tagged the wall in the process, but the boys put it back together and we went racing with good speed.

“It was cool to be battling for the lead in race one, a shame we had that spin but still able to get across in sixth there wasn’t a bad outcome after facing the wrong way. To end up third for the round after the Friday mishaps, I really can’t complain. The last few rounds we’ve been battling hard to just get some consistency, we’ve had a rough back half of the season, so to give the boys a trophy to end the year is awesome.

“Our second full year in the series, realistically we wanted to fight for the championship but when you sit out four races through DNF’s you just can’t make up that ground. We showed speed everywhere we went, we were one of the fastest cars at most tracks, we proved TekworkX belong at the front and we come away with a top five which is something to be proud of.

“Moving forward, I’m excited to do something new and change it up a bit. I’ve been in the Porsche family for a while, it’s been a long time coming, but I’m really excited for what’s to come,” concluded Vidau.
