The Big Stage Awaits TekworkX at Mount Panorama
TekworkX will continue what has proven a fruitful two-pronged attack at many rounds in 2024, with entries in Carrera Cup and TGRA GR Cup at this weekend’s Bathurst 1000.
David Russell enters round six for Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup well in contention for end-of-season silverware, sitting fourth in points in the Hire A Hubby entry. Russell has been the measure of consistency across 15 races so far in 2024, missing the top 10 just twice and notching up 10 finishes inside the top five.
“It’s always a really fun experience driving the 992 around Bathurst, by far the best and most exciting track in Australia,” said Russell.
“One practice session for the weekend means we need to roll out well and make sure we’ve got a good car from the outset. For me it’s the same balancing act as Sandown, in terms of managing my weekend, but fortunately the schedule is a little kinder and the extra day relieves some of that pressure.
“Last year those guys in qualifying were inches from the wall and just very committed, which makes all the difference around there. It’s a case of making sure I give the belts a bit of a pull down and really press on in qualifying as well to put us in the best position for the races.
“You’ve got to be strong under braking because that’s where a lot of the passing will get done, but you can’t be too high in the aero department as you’ll be to slow down the straights. It’s an interesting balancing act to find the right balance,” concluded Russell.
Bradi Owen will continue his fight for the Toyota GR Cup series title, having been ultra-consistent across the opening three rounds. Owen fought his way to the front across a wild Sandown weekend, taking his seventh podium of the season.
“Excited to be back in the car this weekend, being our penultimate round the championship is shaping up to go down to the last race on the Gold Coast,” said Owen.
“I think the key to this weekend, like most others, will be to qualify well. The risk for a Safety Car is high so if you are deep in the field it will make it hard to come through. I also think timing your lap properly in qualifying for a slipstream will be vital, but I suppose everyone is in the same boat.
“It’s a longer weekend than normal, but I can’t wait to get stuck into it,” concluded Owen.
The final two rounds of the Toyota GR Cup will be split next weekend by GT4 Australia, with Bathurst marking the start of a busy month behind the wheel for Zoe Woods.
“October is shaping up to be super hectic with the weekends packed with racing, but I’m really looking forward to all the time I’ll be spending in the car this month,” said Woods.
“Juggling different cars will definitely be a challenge, but that’s just part of the thrill racing in various categories. I’ve been putting in a lot of effort to prepare, while also making sure I take breaks to avoid burning out in the coming weeks.
“My prep routine has been consistent all year, testing, hanging out at the workshop and using the simulator to figure out how to improve in each car,” concluded Woods.
For Lincoln Taylor, it will be his first ever experience racing around Mount Panorama in what has been an impressive rookie season so far for the 16-year-old.
“For Bathurst I’ve been training on the simulator with Focus Driver. I’ve also been watching many onboards from Toyotas around Bathurst previously,” said Taylor.
“Even though I haven’t been there before I should be set and ready to go for practice. There’s so many big straights so I think exits will be key, and just having an all-round stable car.”
On track action kicks off on Thursday, before racing from Friday to Sunday at Mount Panorama.
