Talented Youngster Joins Forces with TekworkX in GT4
Up and coming talent Lachlan Evennett will make his Monochrome GT4 Australia debut at Sydney Motorsport Park in a TekworkX Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman.
The 16-year-old will team up with TekworkX Team Owner Rob Woods, who will also be making his first start in GT4 competition at ColorSpec Race Sydney. The pairing will line up in the Pro-Am class, while their entry brings the TekworkX GT4 stable to three cars.
“It’s great for TekworkX to have Lachy driving with us this weekend, at a very young age he has shown ability in any class he has driven. After his test with us this was no different with how quickly he adapted to the car and the lap time he produced,” said Woods.
Evennett completed a test day recently at Sydney Motorsport Park, becoming familiar with the Gold Coast-based team and getting his first miles behind the wheel of one of the team’s Porsche Cayman GT4s.
“I got asked if I would drive with Rob Woods in the GT4 and I was intrigued to have a go at racing the Porsche in such a competitive category, and at a track I am familiar with,” said Evennett.
“TekworkX have a great record in Porsche racing in all categories, and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel again. I got a great feel of the car and the Pirelli slick tyre which was a new experience for me. Overall, I learned a lot at the test and got along with the TekworkX team really well.
“From watching the category at previous events I’m looking forward to the longer endurance type races and battling with other drivers. My goal is to learn as much as possible and try my best to work towards the front of the grid with Rob as my teammate,” concluded Evennett.
Zoe Woods will debut her new Iron Boats supported Porsche GT4 RS this round, racing in Pro-Am with her mechanic and experienced racer Daniel Jilesen. Woods has executed a strong run of consistent performances across the inaugural season of GT4 Australia, regularly featuring inside the top 10.
The team’s three car attack is completed by Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic, who will aim to continue their winning Pro-Am form in their Black Diamond BMW. The pairing joined TekworkX for the most recent round at Phillip Island, making an immediate impact with victory on Sunday.
“The switch to Pro-Am was thought about very carefully, I started off doing this by myself which has been great. Having Danny (Stutterd) and Tom (McLennan) was also a great benefit,” said Zoe.
“Jilly (Jilesen) has been my mechanic for some time now and has a lot of experience racing as well. It will be great way to learn off another driver who knows the Porsche product very well and has been helping me develop as a driver for a while now.
“The new car is great, really just like the old model but faster. It is very loose in the rear, but I don’t mind that as it’s similar a trait to the Toyota 86. We were competitive in the older gen car, but really hoping to walk away this weekend with a good result,” concluded Woods.
The penultimate round of the GT4 season runs from October 18-20 at Sydney Motorsport Park, with live coverage on 7plus from 2pm-10pm on Saturday and 10:00am-5:15pm AEDT on Sunday.
