TekworkX Wrap GT4 Season with Bathurst Podiums
TekworkX Motorsport have finished their first season of GT4 racing with multiple Bathurst podiums, and end of season silverware for Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic.
In cold conditions for Saturday morning qualifying, Quinn qualified an impressive fifth outright. Category debutant Ramu Farrell claimed pole position in Am class, with Zoe Woods taking 10th outright.
The BMW pairing of Quinn and Jakic combined to take second place in Pro-Am in the opening race, finishing in sixth outright. Wood and Daniel Jilesen fought back to a strong top ten finish in ninth after being dropped down the order early on. Farrell and Andrew Georgiadis took home 12th outright in their first GT4 race, and third in Am.
Jilesen excelled in qualifying for Race 2, taking pole position in the Pro-Am class and fourth outright on the grid. Georgiadis locked in third in Am class and ninth on the grid in his first GT4 qualifying session, with Jakic fifth in Pro-Am.
A delayed start to Race 2 affected the strategy across the three cars, with Jilesen’s time behind the wheel greatly reduced. The Iron Boats Porsche pairing were able to deliver fourth in Pro-Am, finishing eighth overall.
Quinn stormed through the field in his stint, picking off cars all across the Mountain to earn third place in Pro-Am and securing second place in the Pro-Am championship alongside Jakic.
Farrell and Georgiadis finished off their debut weekend with another podium, taking third in Am once again and 12th overall.
The strong weekend caps off a successful maiden season of GT4 racing for TekworkX Motorsport, who quickly grew from a single car entry to a three car squad by season’s end.
TekworkX Motorsport are in action one more time in 2024 this weekend at the Adelaide 500, with Dave Russell in Carrera Cup.
Quotes:
Zoe Woods
“It’s been my first weekend at Bathurst in a car that’s faster than a Toyota 86. It was a really big learning curve and being on the other side of the car as well. I had not really noticed that until we got to Bathurst with all the walls so close around you.
“We got comfortable pretty quickly and then overall it was a great weekend, we were battling hard in the last race for a podium. It just wasn’t our weekend for that podium, we’ll move on to next year and I’m really looking forward to it.
“It was a pretty good year to always be fighting in and around that top ten.”
Ryder Quinn
“This whole year has been a learning year, we had no idea where we’d end up and it’s pretty cool to be second at the end of the year. Considering we pretty much lost all points at the first round, to be a round down and still come second in Pro-Am is pretty good.
“This year we’ve shown extremely good pace, and I’m super happy, Steve has come a long way and let’s see how we end up next year.”
Steve Jakic
“It’s been a great year and a big learning curve, but it’s just amazing to be able to do it with Ryder and to get some podiums. It’s all been having fun and it’s been a great experience for all of us.”
