Russell Not Holding Back in Carrera Cup Finale

It is business as usual for David Russell and TekworkX Motorsport, as they look to clinch second place in the 2024 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship this weekend at the VAILO Adelaide 500.

Russell sits second in the points after seven rounds across 2024, with the Hire A Hubby driver being one of the most in-form drivers across the year. After 21 races, Russell has 19 top tens, 16 top fives and 11 podiums finishes including three race wins.

After joining TekworkX at the start of 2024, the combination has only grown stronger with Russell now holding the longest active podium (6), top five (6) and top ten (13) streaks in the competition.

At the penultimate round of the championship Russell cut the gap to the series lead down with second overall for the weekend, but the gap to the top is now insurmountable with 180 points still up for grabs and Russell 181 away.

Nevertheless, Russell stands a strong chance to claim end of season silverware with an 81-point advantage over his closest rival. TekworkX brought strong speed to the Adelaide Street Circuit in 2023, where Max Vidau claimed two podiums. Russell’s most recent Carrera Cup start in Adelaide came in 2015, where he also delivered a pair of podium finishes.

The final round of the 2024 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship takes place at the VAILO Adelaide 500 from November 14-17.

“I love the track, really keen to get there. I have had good success in the past around Adelaide in Carrera Cup and in the development series, I really enjoy racing there,” said Russell.

“We’ve come from the Gold Coast where there’s a lot of kerb strikes, and Adelaide is much of the same. There’s a bit of a kerb on a lot of the apexes, so it’s really important to take a car than can not only handle them but also work through the high speed of turn eight so that it is predictable.

“Thursday on a street circuit, it always takes a little while to clean up but then the track starts to come alive.

“We have had to climb back a bit, for us it’s (second place) definitely a great position if we can achieve that. I’m going to have a crack, I’m not going there to circulate, we want to go and win the round,” concluded Russell.
