David Russell has closed out a highly successful year in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship, delivering TekworkX Motorsport their best ever Championship result in the one-make category.

Driving the Hire A Hubby Porsche, Russell joined TekworkX at the start of the season and made an almost immediate impact as he claimed a first career round win at the second round of the season in Taupō.

Russell entered Adelaide as the category’s most in form driver, and looked set to continue that impressive form with a strong qualifying performance that earned Russell a pair of top five starts for the first two races of the weekend.

While running comfortably in fourth, Russell was wiped out at turn nine by an errant dive which rendered just the second DNF of the season for the TekworkX Porsche and set a massive repair job in motion for the team.

The Hire A Hubby entry made it back on track in time for Race 2, and in a sterling drive Russell managed ongoing reliability problems to take his 12th podium finish of the season in third place.

That result sealed second in the Championship for Russell, and with the Race 1 incident continuing to provide concerns around the car’s mechanical reliability the team were forced to park up after the formation lap for Race 3.

The small blip to end the year did little to dampen the mood at TekworkX, who rounded out their strongest ever season of Carrera Cup racing. 12 podiums including three race wins catapulting the harmonious team and driver combination to the runner-up spot in 2024.

“It’s been an awesome year for us to be able to be consistently up there getting podiums, the TekworkX guys have done a fantastic job,” said Russell.

“I love Adelaide, it was definitely a place I wanted to put it all on the line and have a crack. I’m proud of my drive in race two, with the diff issue, to overcome how to drive the car and still finish third with all that pressure. Clearly, we were a bit wounded but we still pulled it off.

“Of course it’s always this stage of the championship you look back and reflect on all the little results that could have contributed to you winning the thing. I think we’ve got to take it all in though, we’re a single car team and to have the form at the end of the year means we can carry some momentum over and pick up where we left off this season.

“The car has run faultlessly all year, it’s been awesome to have Hire A Hubby and all our partners onboard and represent them. I want to thank Rob and Astrid (Woods) for giving me the opportunity to join the team, hopefully they agree I’ve delivered for them this year,” concluded Russell.
