Vidau Seeking Overdue Race Win at Porsche Finale
Max Vidau is hunting for a race win he feels is long overdue following six podiums in 2022, including three runner up finishes for TekworkX Motorsport in the Tyrepower #72.
Vidau opened the season with a round win at the Australian Grand Prix, with four podiums over the weekend. Since then, Vidau has claimed two more podiums which have both come in the last four races despite being taken out from a leading position in race two at Sandown.
Last time Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup raced around a street circuit Vidau struggled to find pace, citing setup issues. Since that round however Vidau has been rapid, demonstrating race leading pace at The Bend (after being taken out in race one), finishing third in race one at Sandown, and then second in the only race at Bathurst.
“I’m so keen to get back to a street circuit and get up on the wheel over the kerbs,” said Vidau.
“I didn’t have the best weekend at Townsville, but Luke was super quick there and since then the team have turned my Tyrepower car into a rocket so I’m pretty confident we can enjoy a successful weekend.
“It’s not really a home race for me even though I live up here now, but it certainly is for the team so it’s going to be a great event with lots of support for us.
“I’ve never raced around Surfers Paradise before but I’ve been preparing as best as I can, looking through data and jumping on the simulator we have at the workshop. The best way for me to learn new tracks is watching vision from prior events so there’s been plenty of that and on Thursday I’ll be soaking in absolutely everything on the track walk.
“Come qualifying on Saturday I’m confident I’ll be able to put myself up the front.”
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship wraps up on the streets of the Gold Coast from October 28-30.
