TekworkX Claim first GT4 Victory in Successful Phillip Island Weekend

Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic stormed to a race two victory in Pro-Am for Monochrome GT4 Australia at Phillip Island, delivering a first win in the category for TekworkX Motorsport.

Zoe Woods and Tom McLennan also combined for a strong weekend in their Porsche 718 Cayman, but were curtailed late in Race 2 with damage which forced the car into the pits.

The BMW pairing of Quinn and Jakic, being run for the first time by the TekworkX squad, shot out of the gates when Quinn delivered a rapid lap in qualifying to secure second outright on the grid for Race 1.

Quinn leapt to the outright lead early in the opening race of the weekend, building a healthy gap to the field before a Safety Car hampered his efforts prior to the compulsory stop and driver swap. McLennan was tasked with starting duties in the Porsche, and wasted little time in making up ground as he raced up five spots on the opening lap to sit in eighth.

By the closing stages of Race 1 it was Woods at the wheel of the IRC Porsche and engaged in a highly entertaining fight for seventh overall – notably going wheel-to-wheel with driving coach and mentor Paul Morris in the final minutes of the race. Jakic, who’s advantage was significantly reduced by the early Safety Car, brought the Black Diamond BMW home third in Pro-Am.

The driving duties were inverted for Race 2, with Woods starting from ninth overall and Jakic from 14th. Both drivers made positive starts to the race, gaining places and maintaining their advantage until the pit window opened near the halfway point. McLennan was behind the wheel of the Porsche and sitting comfortably inside the top 10 when the #210 started dropping oil, which necessitated an early retirement from the race.

Quinn took over the driving duties in the BMW and immediately got to work on catching, and then quickly dispatching the Pro-Am class leader with 20 minutes remaining in the race. The pace was hot right until the end for Quinn, who crossed the line in sixth overall to secure a maiden class victory in GT4 for the team.

The next round of GT4 Australia takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park from October 18-20, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
